Fuels for urea nitrate and potassium chlorate

Hi.

I tryd to search but did not find anything that answered my question.

I have some urea nitrate and potassium chlorate I want to have fun with.

What im looking for is fuels to use and OB% for the different fuels.

I have a lot of magnalium I want too mix with also, thinking it will make it more powerful.

What fuels except nm can be used, and what % for UN and PC?

I think for UN it will be somewhere between 5-10% fuel and 20-25% with PC??

Whats best to use from xylene, toluene, kerosene, diesel, gasoline 98 octane or any other common fuels you can tell me about.

This is mostly what i can get.

And best way of mixing and keep in a plastic sealed bag pressed out all air is the best?

Oxygen balance is easy to calculate. Just set up the chemical equation with the oxidizer and fuel on one side and CO2, N2, and H2O on the other side. Balance the equation. If you then divide the molar masses of one reactant to another, you get the ratio you need for perfect oxygen balance.

Example:

1) Write the equation.
CH4 + O2 = CO2 + H2O

2) Balance the equation.
CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O

3) Substitute molar masses.
16 + 2(32) = 44 + 2(18)

4) Multiply.
16 + 64 = 44 + 36

5) Find ratio.
By mass, 16:64 methane to oxygen, or 1:4. (Reduce the fraction)

Oxygen balance percentages are just as easy. Example: Find oxygen balance of ammonium nitrate.

1) Write equation.
NH4NO3 = N2 + H2O + O2

2) Balance the equation.
2NH4NO3 = 2N2 + 4H2O + O2

3) Substitute molar masses.
2(80) = 2(28) + 4(18) + 32

4) Multiply.
160 = 56 + 72 + 32

5) Find the excess oxygen percent of the total starting mass.
32/160 = +20%

Keep in mind that oxygen balanced mixtures are not necessarily the most powerful. Try reading the wikipedia articles about oxygen balance. It will help you set up the equations.

Tyvm for setting up a very good calculation for me to look at.

This Will help me alot finding basic prosentage and ratios.
And i can +/- to fint the most powerful ratio.

Was hoping for some input on the different fuels and what will work fine for this use.

So i dont need to buy all of them and explore them all.

I was thinking about xylene and magnalium is a good way to go?

I see that this have been up before here on the forum only with AN

The extra reactivity of Mg/Al will not make any real difference in power over plain Al, my advice would save it for flash powders or something.

UN is very insensitive and already a bit over fueled so I suspect adding xylene or another unreactive fuel will make it damn near impossible to detonate, I'd just add about 5% Al to bring up sensitivity a bit and leave it at that or use it in combination with AN.

Any mixture of KClO₃ not including NM or another energetic is going to be pretty lame in terms of brisance but fun to mess around with none the less.
85/12/3-chlorate/petroleum jelly/Al makes for a cap sensitive plastic explosive, I've also heard that a 50/40/10 mixture of chlorate/TATP/petroleum jelly gives a plastic explosive with greater power than regular vaselate or plastified TATP but I feel like just mentioning the use of TATP in a main charge is irresponsible.

Tyvm for info.
I would use nm if i had access to it but only nm i can Get is like 25-30%
I Will try out some different mixes and i'll see.

The 25% NM you're talking about is likely diluted with methanol which can simply be evaporated off. Besides, adding a bit of methanol (just 1 or 2%) to ANNMAl or PCNMAl actually can increase power by removing the oxide layer from the Al.

Its nitro Racing fuel for model cars and it says 25%nitro and 12% oil and methanol.
All of them have oil mix into them so thats not easy to get rid of?

Would a fractional distillation not suffice?

Urea nitrate is OB negative. Potassium chlorate is an oxidizer. Why are you looking for additional ingredients?

3. Mention anything you have learned from your target.
4. Only then are you permitted to say so much as a word of rebuttal or criticism.

I see your point :) Adding pc to the un is best thing? No need for al powder too make it more sensetive/powerful?

But i have much more potassium chlorate and wanted to fint a fuel to make it detonate.

"Best thing"? No. Just "a thing". And you had best check compatability before trying it, free advice on explosives from the internet is often worth EXACTLY what you paid for it-

Never made or used urea nitrate. Used chlorate for things that deflagrate only, with the exception of the old school 80:20 Mercury fulminate & Potassium chlorate mix as a primary.

I`ll do that, thank you.
Have only used chlorate for flash my self.
