Just a heads up, it comes in a steel bottle with an inner cap(that you discard once removed) that is sort of like an inverted beer cap. It was a real bitch to get that out of the neck- had to use very small pliers to get a grip on it :S

Platinum group metals are expensive, but Ru is one of the lesser in terms of $$. I'd really love to get ahold of some palladium, platinum, and Iridium chlorides, but the $$ is challenging.

All are destined for electrochemistry experiments.

I also need to source some simple reagents like T-butanol, oxalic acid, and a couple of others to prepare some "paint & bake" electrochemical coatings.

Take a look in Metal Salts at this site.

For your oxalic acid, I bought mine here:

I2 I think and more sulphuric acid perhaps? But I didn't ordered them as they are so basic chemicals here.
When I order something, then it means, it's very hard to make, very complex chemical or very dangerous or very expensive if made by myself or not avalaible on local stores. I mostly use Merck or Sigma-Aldrich for this.

Oddly here in Canada you can get almost anything but since 9/11 you can't get things like KNO3 from suppliers... My supplier had a warning that comes up for a few of their chemicals stating that it is only available to schools and businesses. Thank god I have a couple kilos stock piled from years ago!

Here is the message:

RESTRICTED COMPONENTS REGULATIONS OF THE EXPLOSIVES ACT
XXXX Scientific is registered with the Explosives Regulatory Division of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
This chemical is available only to canadian schools and industries.
It is no longer available to private individuals.
Thank you for your understanding.

Yeah that sucks. It happened fairly recently (around 2009) after some idiot muslim extremists tried blowing up the Toronto stock exchange.

Also, It really bugs my why potassium permanganate is restricted here. The best I could find is they don't want 55kg sacks being exported to Colombia to purify cocaine

Go to the country (I was in northern Ontario) and look for a store that sells water purification products, they usually sell potassium permanganate to remove iron impurities from well water. The store that I went to sold 2.5kg tubs of the stuff for around 50$. I didn't buy any so I can't say anything on the purity, but it looked quite pure.

A local plumbing store sold me this for about 50$, I found it by googling "my city+potassium permanganate"

My latest restock

This is from several different companies including local suppliers.

Some I just grabbed for the awesome prices they were offering with no immediate synthesis or use in mind (like acetic anhydride, I knew it was useful, but Didn't know it was a sched II precursor until After i received it... ), either way, I have offered family in the local sheriffs office to tour my lab anytime they please, to which they show no interest, unless it's blowing up gummy bears and the like, they love watching shit explode.... good thing I have no interest in explosive chemistry or they'd all be here wanting me to blow up something....Really sad when you think about it ....That is the Southern US for you...

Anyway, last orders came to~ this:

4oz Mercury Metal
2oz Chlorobenzene
4oz Acetic Anhydride
1oz Calcium Metal
4oz Activated Charcoal
1oz Citric Acid
4oz Diatomaceous Earth
4oz Ethylene Glycol
16oz Formaldehyde
1oz Formamide
4oz Hexamethylene Tetramine USP
16oz Hydrochloric Acid 37% ACS
1oz Lugol's Iodine
3x Magnesium Metal Ribbon - 3ft
4oz Manganese Dioxide
15g Mercurous Chloride ACS
4oz Phosphoric Acid
1oz Potassium Thiocyanate
1oz Potassium Sodium Tartrate
1oz Sulfamic Acid
1oz Trichloroacetic Acid
16oz ACS Sulfuric Acid
8oz Hexamine
12oz Dichloromethane (Methylene Chloride)
4oz Dichlorobenzene
16oz Benzoic Acid
8oz Para-Formaldehyde
1oz Magnesium Nitrate
1oz Magnesium Oxide
16oz Glacial Acetic Acid
8oz Salicyclic Acid
8oz Sulfur ACS
8oz Potassium Chlorate
16oz Potassium Hydroxide
16oz Sodium Hydroxide
100g Manganese Permanganate
Cans of
Toluene
Acetone
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)
Naphthalene

and several others I cannot remember ATM,

And, Don't forget the
DOT Exempt Poison Pak Shipping! That is NOT cheap :)

I got a little something today... Not extremely useful to me, but still cool :) it's a very nice vitamin c (ascorbic acid) indicator

Quartz tube!

Not a chemical but sort of neat- a huge quartz tube! It was given to me by a friend who works at a chlorate/chlorite plant not far from here. They replaced these which are used to encapsulate sensors in the electrolysis reactors. I'm guessing it could be used as a test tube? :)

Quartz is neat stuff to be sure. I bought three boxes of tubing made by Heraeus sealed in plastic with specs on each tube enclosed in the plastic. It was used for making fiber optic cable. I couldn't resist because it was so cheap on ebay at the time.
There are these quartz "test tubes" for sale on eBay now, kind of nice too.

I can't believe I spent $200 on GL45 caps. The fancy fluropolymer ones.

I'm also sad VWR now requires a company name and contact

For storage of fuming acids and the like? There isn't much else (cap-wise) that will stand up to long-term storage.

My precious stash of conc. nitric is in a glass bottle with a fluoropolymer cap.

Got 1 gm of palladium chloride on the way plus some Tin (II) Chloride.
