Energetic materials are a class of material with high amount of stored chemical energy that can be released through various means.
Common classes of energetic materials are:
- Explosives: both low and high
- Pyrotechnic compositions: flash powder, thermite
- Propellants: smokeless powders and rocket fuels
- Fuels: gasoline, diesel, naphtha, etc.
Although it stores large amounts of energy inside its structure, Prince Rupert's drop is not considered an energetic material by any definition, even though triggering one will result in a spectacular "explosion" of powdered glass.
