Fluoroform


According to Wikipedia you con make fluoroform by the reaction of iodoform and mercury/calcium fluoride. Can i subsitute the mercury/calcium fluoride with Sodium fluoride :) can some try out the reaction i tell the result :cool:

I strongly suspect that coordination of the iodide to the mercury is part of the reason for using it, but that's just my hunch.

Considering that it's a gas at room temp, probably not a great deal.

Just off the top of my head you can use base to make CF[sub}3- ions which could be of some use. Maybe in making trifluoroethanol with reaction with formaldehyde? Oxidation of that to CF3COOH? would be an interesting possibility.
